Cultural Arts, Service, and Action
The CASA (Culture Arts, Service, and Action) project is a ground-level initiative by the Critical Perspectives on Democracy + Media Lab to build a network of small-town public art and social services houses in working class neighborhoods across the Western United States that work in tandem with an educational MA/MFA program. CASA neighborhood houses will host residencies for artists, activists, public health workers, and students. Residents of the house organize community events and media making including poetry readings, film nights, reading groups, info-session town halls, and more. In addition to events, neighborhood houses provide workshop space and community organizing rooted in bilingual, humanist, and anti-racist principles.
